2007 had some great movies (especially I Am Legend), lots of good movies (like The Golden Compass or Beowulf) and lots of not so good (I don’t want to say BAD) movies like AVP Requiem…2008 promises more of all the above-mentioned categories. Let’s see which are those I’m waiting for the most:

Star Trek 0 / XI

Prequels are en vogue these days. Why would Star Trek be an exception? After the moderately successful prequel TV series Enterprise, another prequel is to arrive on the big screens, directed by J. J. Abrams, with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, even Leonard Nimoy…

A new (old) Enterprise will be built and launched at Christmas - on Christmas Day, to be exact.

I’m a Star Trek fan (a moderate one, I must say), so I’m looking forward to see this movie.

Doomsday

Great Britain, 2007. A deadly plague, known as the “Reaper Virus,” has broken out, killing hundreds of thousands in its wake. In desperation, the British Government evacuates as many survivors as it can out of the infected area, and then builds a wall, preventing the remainder from escaping. Thirty years later, with the wall still up and the victims all but forgotten, the virus breaks out again.

A new - slightly Mad Max-ish (at least judging by the trailer) - Science Fiction flick by the writer of The Descent. I want to see this movie!

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I simply loved the first Hellboy movie! It was funny, exciting, with superbe FX and a great storyline! Mystical creatures, the Devil himself, sorcerers, a big red demon with a definite sense of humour… Hellboy II: The Golden Army is written by Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola. Universal Pictures finances and distributes the film, which has a target release date for July 11, 2008.

Jumper

Throughout time, there have been individuals who posess the power to teleport (or Jump). They have used their abilities for personal gain, to escape from their enemies and to change the course of history. The ability to Jump is a genetic anomaly that has existed for centuries and those who possess this gift have a freedom that most people can’t begin to comprehend. They can transport themselves anywhere in the world at any time, for any reason.

On this year’s Valentine’s Day, the movie Jumper (starring Hayden “Darth Vader” Christensen), the adaptation of Steven Gould’s 1992 novel with the same title will be launched in theatres across the world. It’s a “must see” movie!

That’s about it for today. I will continue as new movies emerge.
